Marnus Labuschagne didn’t miss the opportunity to run a little more salt into Jonny Bairstow’s wounds, when the Australian batsman teased the England wicketkeeper at the end of first day’s play in the fifth Ashes Test, reminding him of getting controversially stumped in the second Test at Lord’s.
After leaving the day’s last delivery bowled by Stuart Broad through to wicketkeeper Bairstow, Labuschagne deliberately kept his bat inside the crease for a little longer, ensuring that Bairstow looked at him and knew that he can’t be stumped.
At Lord’s Bairstow was stumped in a similar fashion by Alex Carey, when he left his crease after ducking under a bouncer, thinking that the ball was dead.
Australia lead the five-Test series 2-1, having won the first two Tests. England won the third Test and were then denied victory in the fourth match by Manchester rain.
Australia were 61/1 at stumps on Thursday, after bowling England out for 283.
