Siraj (6/21) took six wickets, including four from just one over, to dismantle the Lankans in one of the most devastating bowling performances. Jasprit Bumrah (1/23), who gave India the first breakthrough in the first over, and Hardik Pandya (3/3) were among the wickets for India.
India openers, Shubman Gill (27 not out) and Ishan Kishan (23 not out), then made short work of the small chase as they completed it in just 6.1 overs with all 10 wickets intact.
Here’s how India pacers destroyed Sri Lanka in Colombo:
1st wicket: Bumrah removes Perera | SL 1/1
0.3 overs — Bumrah opened the India attack and forced an edged off Kusal Perera’s bat early in the innings. Bumrah pitched it around middle and swung it away, tempting Perera to push at it. Good catch by wicket-keeper KL Rahul, diving low to his left.
2nd wicket: Siraj scalps Nissanka | SL 8/2
3.1 overs — Siraj started his second over of his spell with a wicket off the first ball. Pathum Nissanka punched it behind square, but Ravindra Jadeja dived to his right from backward point to take a brilliant low catch.
3rd wicket: Siraj grabs Samarawickrama | SL 8/3
3.3 overs — Siraj then trapped in-form Sadeera Samarawickrama LBW for a duck. Samarawickrama was late on his shot and played the wrong line. Struck in front of middle and ball tracking confirmed it. Sri Lanka lost both batter and a review.
