NEW DELHI: Young Indian wrestler Sonam Malik displayed remarkable skill and determination as she secured a bronze medal in the women’s 62kg wrestling category at the Asian Games.
In a closely contested bout against China’s Jia Long, Sonam showcased her prowess and tenacity, ultimately emerging victorious with a score of 7-5.

The match was an intense battle, with both wrestlers locked at 4-4, and Jia Long holding an advantage on criteria. However, with just 25 seconds remaining in the bronze play-off, Sonam executed a crucial take-down move that secured her the win and the bronze medal.
This achievement marks India’s third wrestling bronze medal in this edition of the Asian Games. Earlier, Sunil Kumar had secured a bronze in the Greco-Roman category, and Antim Panghal had won a bronze in the women’s 53kg category.

India’s wrestling contingent continues to impress, with Kiran (women’s 76kg), Aman Sehrawat (men’s 57kg), and Bajrang Punia (men’s 65kg) also in contention for bronze medals later in the day.
