Watch: Centurion Daryl Mitchell gets two lives from ‘butter fingers’ India | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India have been good on the field so far in the World Cup but they had an off day against New Zealand on Sunday, dropping three catches – two of which were straightforward opportunities, allowing the Kiwis to gain a significant advantage.
Ravindra Jadeja, who is one of India’s best fielders, put down a regulation knee high catch at backward point off Mohammed Shami to give Rachin Ravindra a life and the Kiwi batter went on to score 75 off 87 balls.

Shami pitched it up and Ravindra, on 12, went for the drive, got an edge and the ball went straight into the hands of Jadeja at backward point, but got a big reprieve.

And Ravindra’s batting partner Daryl Mitchell was dropped twice when he was in his 60s. Mitchell, on 60, was first dropped by wicketkeeper KL Rahul off Jadeja.

Mitchell looked to drive the fullish and fast delivery but got a feather edge, the ball rushed toward Rahul faster than he could respond, leaving him genuinely disheartened that he couldn’t close his hands in time.
The right handed batter Mitchell continued to ride on his luck as he got another life when Jasprit Bumrah put down a sitter off Kuldeep Yadav. He, on 69 at that time, went for the lofted drive, flat hit to the left of long-off and Bumrah made a mess of it before the ball raced away to boundary.

Mitchell capitalised on the chances he got to score his 5th ODI century after India invited New Zealand to bat in Dharamsala.
Ravindra and Mitchell added a 159-run stand for the third wicket to set the platform for a big total after early blows.
