NEW DELHI: Shubman Gill has been regarded as one of the young, promising talents in Indian cricket for his stylish stroke play across the formats. His impressive batting skills gained praise from all quarters and the rising India star now has a new admirer in Pakistan legend Wasim Akram.
Speaking highly of his remarkable determination and unwavering commitment, Akram praised Gill for making a successful recovery from dengue. He said that Gill is not only physically fit but also a mentally resilient player.
“He has got a proper technique. He is a good Test player, good T20 player and we have seen his recent ODI form in Asia Cup and World Cup. He is a complete player and a treat to watch. He controls the game. He is young but he doesn’t show when he goes to bat,” Akram said during the discussion on A Sports.

Gill accomplished the distinction of becoming the fastest player to reach 2000 runs in ODIs in his World Cup match against New Zealand in Dharamsala on Sunday.
He achieved this milestone in just 38 innings, surpassing the previous record held by South African batsman Hashim Amla, who had taken 40 innings to reach 2000 ODI runs.
The 24-year-old Indian, who had scored 53 runs against Bangladesh in his previous match, entered the game 14 runs short of this milestone. He managed to reach it in the seventh over of India’s run chase by smashing a boundary off Trent Boult.
However, Gill’s innings was cut short when he was dismissed for 26 runs from 31 balls in the 14th over, with Lockie Ferguson claiming his wicket.
