Nathan Lyon dismisses ‘Bazball’ revolution in cricket | Cricket News – Times of India

Lyon, who stands just four wickets away from the milestone of 500 Test wickets, expressed his scepticism regarding the impact of “Bazball.” The term gained prominence after McCullum, affectionately known as Baz, took charge of the England Test team last year.
“I’m 2-0 against Bazball, so I am happy,” Lyon humorously remarked on Channel 7’s Front Bar program. “It’s a load of s***, if you ask me. It’s a brand of cricket that the English want to keep going with. Now, it’s in the dictionary, which is pretty extraordinary.”
This is not the first time Lyon has taken a dig at ‘Bazball,’ and he continued to question the validity of the term, emphasising the importance of adaptability in Test cricket.
“I know everyone keeps talking about BazBall; to be honest, I didn’t really see BazBall… throughout my two Tests against them. I think there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors with BazBall,” Lyon stated. He emphasised the need for teams to be versatile and understand the nuances of the game, regardless of playing aggressively.
Reflecting on Australia’s success in retaining the Ashes with a 2-2 series draw last year, Lyon highlighted the effectiveness of Australian batters like David Warner, who showcased attacking cricket by scoring centuries in a single session.
