IPL 2024: Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Pathirana reaches Chennai, will join CSK squad soon | – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Matheesha Pathirana‘s manager, Amila Kalugalage, has confirmed that the talented Sri Lankan pacer has arrived in Chennai and is set to link up with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad imminently.
Pathirana had been sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained during the second T20I of the series against Bangladesh. Consequently, he missed out CSK’s season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

In a recent update, Kalugalage took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a photo of Pathirana, affirming his presence in Chennai and signaling his impending inclusion in the CSK squad.

“Wanakkam Chennai, he (Matheesha Pathirana) has just landed in Chennai,” wrote Kalugalage on X.

Despite being the highest wicket-taker for the franchise in the previous IPL season, with an impressive tally of 19 wickets in 12 matches and an economical bowling performance at 8.90, Pathirana’s participation in the upcoming IPL 2024 matches for CSK remains contingent upon clearance from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), which is yet to be confirmed.

CSK got off to a strong start in the tournament, clinching victory in their opening match against RCB with a notable bowling display from Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who claimed figures of 4-29.
However, the potential return of Pathirana promises to bolster Chennai’s bowling arsenal, particularly in the crucial death overs, providing added strength to their campaign in the IPL 2024 season.
