In a significant move, the federal cabinet, under the chairmanship of caretaker Prime Minister (PM) Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, gave its nod to the Ramzan Relief Package 2024, allocating an impressive Rs7.49 billion as the holy month approaches.

This decision, ratified during a recent cabinet meeting, reflects the government’s commitment to providing financial support to the citizens during the auspicious month of Ramzan.

The cabinet’s approval follows the Economic Coordination Committee’s (ECC) endorsement of a proposed subsidy of Rs7,492.75 million for the Ramzan Relief Package 2024.

This financial assistance is designated for the targeted beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), as outlined in the budget for the fiscal year 2023–24.

During the meeting, the ECC also greenlit a proposal related to the “Permission to Import Wheat and Export of Wheat Flour under Export Facilitation Scheme 2021,” which was presented by the Ministry of Commerce.

This decision reflects the government’s proactive measures to ensure the stability of wheat supply and the facilitation of wheat flour exports.

Moreover, the ECC sanctioned a summary from the Ministry of Commerce (Tariff Policy Wing) addressing “Individual Tariff Rationalisation Proposals from Different Sectors for Review of Custom Duties.”

The committee advised that tariff rationalisation should be carefully coordinated with broader trade policy to ensure a balanced and strategic approach.

In another key development, the ECC approved a summary from the Power Division concerning the “Commissioning of 1263 MW CCPP Punjab Thermal Power (Pvt) Limited, Jhang (PPTL).”

This decision underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing power generation capacity and meeting the energy needs of the country.

The decisions taken during the cabinet meeting demonstrate the government’s dedication to addressing economic challenges, providing relief to vulnerable segments of society, and fostering sustainable development across various sectors.

As the holy month of Ramzan approaches, these initiatives aim to ensure the well-being and prosperity of the Pakistani population.
