Tigers icon thrilled as club sacks entire board

The Wests Tigers have undergone significant change with the club’s entire board removed effective immediately.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting chief executive officer Justin Pascoe has also resigned from his role.

Former NSW premier Barry O’Farrell has moved into the interim chairman role with ex-South Sydney Rabbitohs boss Shane Richardson the interim CEO.

Drastic change at the club comes after an independent review was ordered by the Holman Barnes Group, which sits on the board.

The re-structure into the club reportedly came on Monday night, before Pascoe quit.

Balmain Tigers legend Garry Jack expressed his disbelief that the decision had finally come after over a decade of poor performances.

“I didn’t think it would happen, the review by the Holman Barnes Group has been coming to this … I can’t believe it’s happened, I think it’s a really positive day for the Tigers,” he told 2GB Radio.

“I think Barry O’Farrell will be an excellent chairman. To be honest, the guys that have been there, (Justin) Pascoe, (Lee) Hagipantelis, the board, have overseen two wooden spoons for the Tigers. Who keeps their job if you get two wooden spoons?

“Coaches go, players go, but they’re in their ivory towers, they’ve been there for 10 years and stayed on. It’s about time they’re accountable for their actions.”

The Herald reports the interim board has gone from seven members to four with Dave Gilbert (Holman Barnes Group), Danny Stapleton (Balmain Tigers chairman), O’Farrell and a nomination from Wests Magpies to be the representatives.

Former NRL chief financial officer Tony Crawford undertook the review, along with Gary Barnier, managing director of Benchmarking Matters of Cooperage Capital.

Wests Tigers have gone 12 years without a finals appearance, and have had five full-time coaches in that time, with Benji Marshall officially taking over next season.

Richardson has told 2GB Radio that there will be a press conference on Wednesday.
