2 dead, driver arrested after crash east of Gatineau | CBC News

Gatineau Police say two people were killed in a collision in Buckingham, Que., early Sunday morning.

Gatineau Police say two people were killed in a collision in Buckingham, Que., early Sunday morning.

Police responded to a two-vehicle crash around 3 a.m. at the intersection of avenue de Buckingham and rue Maclaren, 25 minutes east of Gatineau.

One of the two vehicles ran off the road, collided with Hydro-Québec poles and caught fire. Two passengers in the vehicle were dead when police arrived, according to a press release.

Police arrested the driver of the vehicle based on information gathered at the scene. They have not released the man’s identity.

Police gave no information about the other vehicle involved in the crash.

Avenue de Buckingham is closed between rue Lamennais and rue Joseph, as well as chemin Maclaren, between rue Charles and rue Georges.

These closures will remain in place indefinitely.
