Liverpool meet Manchester United at Anfield in a blockbuster Premier League encounter.

Victory would see Liverpool stay top of the table, whilst Man Utd can return to sixth with a win.

Alexis Mac Allister is doubtful for Liverpool after he missed their last two matches with a knee injury.

Diogo Jota (muscle), Joel Matip (ACL), Andrew Robertson (shoulder), Stefan Bajcetic (calf) and Thiago Alcantara (hip) remain absent.

Man Utd could be without Luke Shaw after he suffered a hamstring injury during their Champions League exit against Bayern Munich in midweek.

Victor Lindelof (knock), Mason Mount (calf) and Marcus Rashford (illness) are set to be in contention but

Harry Maguire (muscle), Bruno Fernandes (suspension) and Anthony Martial (illness) however are definitely ruled out for this match.

Lisandro Martinez (foot), Casemiro (hamstring), Christin Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia, Amad Diallo (all knee) and Jadon Sancho (personal) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Liverpool host Man Utd at Anfield on Sunday 17 December in a 4:30pm GMT kick-off, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Liverpool have lost just one of their last 10 league meetings against Man Utd (W6, D3, L1).
  • Man Utd are winless in their last seven league visits to Anfield (D3, L4).
  • Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah has scored nine goals in his last five appearances against Man Utd.
  • Coming into this matchweek, no team has attempted more shots than Liverpool who have managed 280 shots in 16 league games, of which 95 shots were on target.
  • Bruno Fernandes has made more tackles than any other Man Utd player this season with 35 tackles in 16 league appearances.

Prediction

Having rested several regulars in their Europa League defeat at Union Saint Gilloise, Liverpool certainly should be back to full strength for the first of two difficult home games, especially after two sluggish performances in their last two league games albeit away rather than at home.

Man Utd meanwhile have a feeling of deja vu because they are in a similar situation now like at the same stage in 2018-19 season, even down to same matchweek, timeslot and manager under pressure with sack rumours so a huge performance is needed somehow.

I however just can’t see that massive turnaround in performance coming after two awful performances at home to Bournemouth and Bayern Munich in the last week, so it feels like a question of how many goals can Liverpool score especially with Maguire out in Utd’s central defence.

Prediction: Liverpool 3-0 Manchester United
