2023-24 Premier League: Week 28 – Bournemouth vs Sheffield United

[ad_1]

Bournemouth host relegation-battling Sheffield United at the Vitality Stadium.

Victory would see Bournemouth stay 13th but move to within four points of the top ten if results elsewhere swing in their favour.

Sheffield Utd meanwhile can move off the foot of the table with a win or draw because Burnley are not in action until Sunday.

Ryan Christie is set to be available for Bournemouth after he was substituted at half-time in their win at Burnley, due to fatigue.

Marcos Senesi however suffered a hamstring injury in that game and is now ruled out indefinitely.

Lloyd Kelly (hip) could return but James Hill (ankle), Max Aarons (muscle), Ryan Fredericks (calf) and Tyler Adams (hamstring) remain absent.

Sheffield Utd have no fresh injury concerns to report coming into this match after their defeat against Arsenal.

Anis Ben Slimane (unspecified), Mason Holgate (suspension), Rhian Brewster, Rhys Norrington-Davies (both hamstring), John Egan (foot), Chris Basham, Max Lowe (both ankle), Cameron Archer (calf) and Daniel Jebbison (illness) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Bournemouth host Sheffield Utd at Vitality Stadium at 3pm on Saturday 9 March, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Bournemouth have claimed four points in their three previous Premier League meetings against Sheffield Utd (W1, D1, L1).
  • Sheffield Utd drew 1-1 in their only previous Premier League trip to Bournemouth in August 2019.
  • Both teams have scored in each of their three previous Premier League clashes, with Bournemouth scoring five goals to Sheffield Utd’s four.
  • All four of Justin Kluivert’s goals for Bournemouth this season have been scored on his right foot.
  • Sheffield Utd have failed to keep a clean sheet on the road in the top-flight this season.

Prediction

Although their win at Burnley was far from a vintage performance by any stretch of the imagination, Bournemouth simply were clinical on the attack yet effective defensively but this is a chance for them to come out and attack the game in their usual style and get at Sheffield Utd’s sloppy defence.

Chris Wilder’s Blades meanwhile again must reset after another insipid defensive performance against Arsenal which was frankly embarrassing in the first half, so a 6-0 loss is actually somewhat respectable given that Mikel Arteta’s Gunners could of happily tore that defence apart beyond the double-digit goals barrier if so wished.

Bournemouth though should be wary of the fact that Wilder’s Blades actually seem more solid on the road so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is closer than any might casually predict, but I would be surprised if the Cherries concede here.

Prediction: Bournemouth 2-0 Sheffield United
