2023-24 Sky Bet Championship: Week 41 – Friday
[ad_1]
Rotherham United look to starve off their immediate relegation against Plymouth Argyle at the New York Stadium.
Anything less than victory would confirm Rotherham’s relegation, whilst Plymouth can go 19th with a win and four points clear of the drop zone.
Team News
Rotherham have no fresh injury concerns to report following their win over Millwall.
Andre Green (Achilles) and Grant Hall (hip) are unlikely to feature but Christ Tiehi (abdominal), Jordan Hugill (knee), Peter Kioso, Tyler Blackett (both hamstring) and Sean Morrison (calf) remain absent.
Plymouth have no fresh injury concerns to report coming into this match but Alfie Devine is suspended after his red card against Bristol City.
When is Kick-Off?
Rotherham host Plymouth at New York Stadium on Friday 5 April at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Rotherham have won two of their last five meetings against Plymouth (W2, D1, L2).
- Plymouth have won one of their last six visits to Rotherham (W1, D2, L3).
- Victory would see Plymouth do a league double over Rotherham for the first time this century – having last achieved the feat in 1998-99 season.
- Rotherham have kept just three clean sheets at home this season.
- Morgan Whittaker has scored in each of Plymouth’s last two away matches (D1, L1).
Prediction
With every match now absolute must-win, Rotherham have to view the pressure as being off them because nobody is expecting them to stay up but they have to show the same grit and clinical quality here that they mustered against Millwall.
Plymouth meanwhile aren’t the best defensively with just two clean sheets in 2024 and goals seem to have dried up with just two goals in their last six games, but Ian Foster’s sacking now needs to reignite the flame within the squad because they’re capable of better results.
Defending however will be a key theme of this game and I really do expect this game to be scrappy and a draw wouldn’t be at all surprising.
Prediction: Rotherham 1-1 Plymouth
