Roundup of latest action as teams began to secure knockout spots in 2023-24 UEFA Champions League.
Manchester City and Arsenal entered this match week looking to secure their places in the knockout stages, whilst Newcastle United and Manchester United sought to take a step forward in their own ambitions to advance beyond this stage.
Group A
Harry Kane’s brace saw Bayern Munich beat Galatasaray 2-1 to seal their qualification for the knockout stage, despite Cedric Bakambu’s injury-time consolatory goal for the Turkish visitors.
Roony Bardghji struck a 87th minute winner as Copenhagen fought back to beat ten-men Man Utd 4-3 in a dramatic thriller to go second, in which Rasmus Højlund scored twice early for the Red Devils prior to Marcus Rashford’s red card.
Group B
Goals from Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka saw Arsenal defeat Sevilla 2-0 at home to stay top of Group B.
PSV Eindhoven moved up to second in the group with a 1-0 home win over ten-men Lens which came courtesy of Luuk De Jong’s 12th minute goal, whilst the visitors’ Morgan Guilavogui was red carded in the 92nd minute.
Group C
Real Madrid sealed their place in the knockout stages with a 3-0 home win over Braga as Brahim, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo all netted.
Napoli remain second in the group after Matteo Politano’s opening goal was cancelled out by David Fofana, in a 1-1 draw at home to Union Berlin.
Group D
First half goals from Mikel Merino, Mikel Oyarzabal and Ander Barrenetxea saw Group D leaders, Real Sociedad defeat Benfica 3-1 to seal qualification for the Last 16, despite Rafa Silva netting a 49th minute consolatory goal for the visitors.
Lautaro Martinez’s 85th minute penalty saw last season’s runner-up, Inter Milan defeat Red Bull Salzburg to secure their knockout spot.
Group E
Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata both scored twice as Atletico Madrid thrashed ten-men Celtic 6-0 at home to move top of Group E, with Samuel Lino and Saul Niguez also on the scoresheet whilst the Hoops’ Daizen Maeda was sent off in the 23rd minute.
Ciro Immobile struck a first-half injury time winner as Lazio beat Feyenoord to move up to second in the group.
Group F
Goals from Niclas Fullkrug and Julian Brandt lifted Borussia Dortmund up to top spot in Group F with a 2-0 home win over Newcastle United.
Comeback goals from Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud saw AC Milan fight back to stun PSG 2-1 and climb up to third in the group, after Milan Skriniar had put the French club into a ninth minute lead.
Group G
Erling Haaland’s brace and Phil Foden’s strike secured knockout qualification for Group G leaders, Manchester City who beat Young Boys 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
Xavier Simons and Ikoma-Lois Openda’s goals saw RB Leipzig win 2-1 away to Red Star Belgrade, which wrapped up knockout qualification for the Bundesliga club.
Group H
Danylo Sikan’s 40th minute winner saw third-placed Shakhtar Donetsk stun Group H leaders, Barcelona to keep their knockout qualification hopes alive.
Evanilson’s penalty and Pepe’s injury-time header saw second-placed Porto defeat Royal Antwerp 2-0 to move level on points with Barcelona.
