2023-24 UEFA Champions League Quarter-Finals: Second Leg – Bayern Munich vs Arsenal
[ad_1]
Bayern Munich host Arsenal at Allianz Arena in a blockbuster Quarter-Final second leg in 2023-24 UEFA Champions League.
Following a 2-2 draw in the first leg in North London, victory would see Bayern or Arsenal advance but a draw would send the tie to extra-time and potentially penalties.
Team News
Kingsley Coman is ruled out for Bayern Munich after he suffered an adductor injury during the Bundesliga win over Cologne.
Alphonse Davies is suspended after he picked up his third booking of the campaign in the first leg in North London, whilst Serge Gnabry suffered a hamstring injury in that match and is now ruled out of the return leg.
Sacha Boey (hamstring), Bouna Sarr (ACL) and Tarek Buchmann (muscle) remain absent.
Arsenal could be without midfielder, Martin Odegaard after he suffered an injury during their Premier League loss against Aston Villa on Sunday.
Jurrien Timbers (knee) remains absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Bayern Munich host Arsenal at Allianz Arena on Wednesday 17 April at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on TNT Sports 2 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Bayern have lost just one of their last seven Champions League meetings against Arsenal (W4, D2, L1).
- Arsenal have won one of their six previous Champions League visits to Bayern Munich (W1, D1, L4).
- Bayern’s Thomas Muller has scored three goals in his last two appearances at home to Arsenal.
- Five of Harry Kane’s seven Champions League goals for Bayern Munich this season came at home.
- Arsenal have won one of their four Champions League away matches this season (W1, D1, L2), during which they netted in three of those four games on the road.
Prediction
With this tie now in their hands in front of home supporters after delivering a spirited performance to come from behind in the first leg despite conceding a late equaliser, Bayern need to be more clinical than they were against Cologne but just as defensively solid.
Arsenal meanwhile were absolutely wasteful against Villa and actually seemed to lack much creative attacking edge as the second half wore on, yet their defence were undone by two small but decisive moments of poor man marking.
Throw in the Gunners’ poor away record to Bayern and that defeat to Villa is a psychological blow but the first goal is key and if Arsenal can score first, there will be some hope but they will need to be clinical but defensively effective if want to win this.
I however won’t be surprised if Bayern’s experience is the difference here.
Prediction: Bayern Munich 2-1 Arsenal
