2023-24 UEFA Champions League Quarter-Finals: Second Leg – Manchester City vs Real Madrid
[ad_1]
Manchester City entertain Real Madrid at Etihad Stadium in their Quarter-Final second leg in 2023-24 UEFA Champions League.
Following a 3-3 draw in the first leg in Madrid, victory would see Man City or Real Madrid advance but a draw would send the tie to extra-time and potentially penalties.
Team News
John Stones is a doubt for Man City after he missed their Premier League win over Luton with a knock.
Manuel Akanji and Ruben Dias are both one booking away from missing the semi-final first leg if City advance.
Real Madrid will be without Aurelién Tchouameni after he picked up his third booking of the campaign in the first leg.
Thibaut Courtois and David Alaba both remain sidelined with ACL injuries.
Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Vinicius Junior are one booking away from suspension for the semi-final first leg, should Real reach the last four.
When is Kick-Off?
Man City host Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday 17 April at 8pm BST, live on TNT Sports 1 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Man City have lost one of their last seven Champions League meetings against Real Madrid (W4, D2, L1).
- Real Madrid are winless in five previous visits to Man City (D2, L3).
- City’s Bernardo Silva has scored three goals in his last two home appearances against Real Madrid (W2).
- Man City have scored three goals in all nine Champions League matches this season (W8, D1), during which they kept only one clean sheet.
- Real Madrid have kept one clean sheet in their four away games in this season’s Champions League (W4).
Prediction
Although their defensive ability is still questionable at times, Man City can be pleased to come into this home leg with the tie level and Saturday’s win over Luton will only inspire further confidence in a team hitting their traditional peak with increased intensity and quality.
Real Madrid meanwhile really ought to have of won their home leg because their record here is poor but if they can get a draw, anything could happen in extra-time but they simply must go for it and hope that luck is on their side.
I however don’t see City repeating their sloppy defending as saw at the Santiago Bernabeu and given their current form, you would be silly to not think that this is City’s to lose because I can see them having the edge such is their quality and tactical depth.
Prediction: Manchester City 2-1 Real Madrid
