The country’s third-largest carmaker, Tata Motors, recently took the covers off its new 2023 Safari facelift. The all-new updated iteration of its flagship SUV has been given a massive overhaul from the outside and inside. For the 2023 model year, the company will be offering this new facelifted model in five variants, namely Accomplished, Adventure, Pure, Smart, and Dark. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the list of features offered with the base Smart variant of the Safari.
Exterior Design
First off, in terms of the exterior, the new Safari facelift’s base variant will get the same updated styling. However, to cut costs, the company has made a few changes. With the base variant, Smart, the new Safari will come equipped with the same connected LED DRLs on the front and connected LED taillights at the rear. Apart from that, the company, instead of offering the body-colored elements on the grille, will be offering gloss black elements.

Additionally, the company will be offering the base Smart variant with LED headlights. However, there will be no LED fog lights. On the side profile, the Tata Safari facelift will also be missing out on the new 18-inch alloy wheel design and will get the same 17-inch silver alloy wheels as the outgoing model. Moving on to the rear, the SUV will be missing out on a rear window wiper; however, it will get the defogger and the same LED taillights as mentioned above.
Interior
Moving on to the interior of the base Smart variant of the Safari facelift, the SUV will come with Ash Grey fabric upholstery, height-adjustable seat belts for the driver and co-driver, 3-point seat belts with reminders for all seats, central locking, all power windows, a fully automatic temperature control system, and ISOFIX. Apart from these, the SUV will also come equipped with Smart A-type and C-type chargers in all three rows, 2nd-row seats with a 60:40 split, 3rd-row seats with a 50:50 split, 2nd and 3rd-row seats with AC vents, and a perimetric alarm system. The Safari facelift will also get a tilt and telescopic steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo as well.
Safety Features
As for the safety features, even in the base variant, Tata Motors has provided the Safari with a ton of features. The list of safety features includes 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, Electronic Stability Program, hill hold control, traction control, roll-over mitigation, corner stability control, brake disc wiping, after-impact braking, panic brake alerts, ABS with EBD, tire pressure monitoring system, rear parking sensors, and electronically adjustable ORVMs.
Powertrain
Just like the top-spec models, the base Smart variant will also come equipped with the Kryotec 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine. This is the same engine that currently powers the outgoing Safari. It generates a maximum power of 170 PS and 350 Nm of torque. For the base Smart variant, this engine will only be available with a 6-speed manual transmission. Additionally, the base Smart variant will only come available in two color options, namely Stellar Frost and Lunar Slate.
