Five Key Pointers

  • Red Bull will be hot favourites coming into this season after a dominant test with very few issues.
  • After topping two of the three days of pre-season testing, Ferrari will look to challenge Red Bull but are more likely to be ‘best of the rest’ if Red Bull turn up their engine modes.
  • With C1, C2 and C3 tyres in use for this round, McLaren and Alpine could be well-placed for strong weekends after using only those three tyre compounds in teesting.
  • Mercedes enjoyed a positive progressive test but with engine modes unknown, this race will provide a clear reading of where they truely sit in the pecking order.
  • Having managed the least number of laps in pre-season testing, Williams need clean practice sessions to maximise their performance this weekend.

Last Time Out

Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso topped the three opening practice sessions but it was Verstappen who took pole position ahead of Perez in a Red Bull front row lock-out.

Verstappen subsequently went on to win the race ahead of his Mexican teammate and Alonso who battled from fifth on the grid to round out the podium.
