Fresh off a McDonald’s All-American appearance for three of Montverde Academy’s stars, the Eagles maintained its position as the team to beat.
It was a well-rounded game for Montverde, as four Eagles scored double-digit points to methodically knock out the ultra-talented AZ Compass Prep team. Top 2024 player Cooper Flagg had 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Robert Wright and McDonald’s MVP Derik Queen scored 14 points apiece. Queen was active down low, getting to the line and going 8-for-8 from the free throw stripe. Liam McNeeley had 11 points.
Montverde trailed at halftime, but the team turned on its burners in the third quarter, outscoring AZ Compass Prep 25-5. That was curtains for the Dragons and four-star LSU commit Vyctorius Miller, who led the team with 18 points.
