2024 Hyundai Kona Electric Starts At $32,675 And Offers Up To 261 Miles Of Range

Hyundai introduced the 2024 Kona Electric earlier this year and now the company has announced U.S. pricing will begin at $32,675.

Kicking things off is the entry-level SE, which features a bold new exterior with LED lighting units and 17-inch alloy wheels. The model has also grown nearly six inches (152 mm) in length and this results in an additional three inches (76 mm) of rear seat legroom.

Speaking of the interior, it sports a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment system with GPS navigation as well as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Buyers will also find a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a six-speaker audio system, and a passive entry system with a push button ignition.

Despite its entry-level status, the Kona Electric SE comes with a host of driver assistance systems including Highway Driving Assist and navigation-based Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go. They’re joined by Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance-Assist, and Blind-Spot Collision Warning. Other safety features include High Beam Assist, Lane Following Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Safe Exit Warning, and Rear Occupant Alert.

Motivation is provided by a 48.6 kWh battery pack, which powers a front-mounted motor developing 133 hp (99 kW / 135 PS) and 188 lb-ft (255 Nm) of torque. This setup gives the crossover a range of 200 miles (322 km) as well as a top speed of 101 mph (163 km/h).

When it’s time to recharge, owners can go from a 10-80% charge in approximately 43 minutes with a 100 kW DC fast charger. At home, with a Level 2 charger, the battery can go from 10-100% in around five hours.

The mid-level Kona Electric SEL begins at $36,675 and features a lightly revised exterior with roof rails and privacy glass. Buyers will also find a classier cabin with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat. The model also comes equipped with rear air vents, which are missing on the entry-level trim.

The big news is an upgraded powertrain with a 64.8 kWh battery pack that increases the range to 261 miles (420 km). Besides the beefier battery, there’s a stronger electric motor producing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 188 lb-ft (255 Nm) of torque. This setup increases the top speed to 107 mph (172 km/h) while also adding roughly an hour onto the 10-100% Level 2 charging time.

Sitting at the top of the range is the $41,045 Kona Electric Limited. It sports an eye-catching exterior with a “Seamless Horizon” light, satin chrome trim, a sunroof, and a hands-free power liftgate.

Bigger changes occur inside as the cabin is outfitted with H-Tex leatherette upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and additional soft-touch accents. Buyers will also find an ambient lighting system, a heated steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink. They’re joined by a wireless smartphone charger, digital key technology, and an eight-speaker Bose audio system.

The upgrades don’t end there as the Limited has a Blind-Spot View Monitor, a Surround View Monitor, and Remote Smart Parking Assist. The model also comes equipped with Parking Distance Warning and Parking Collision Avoidance Assist – Reverse.
