2024 Lexus NX Gains Chassis Upgrades And New Overtrail Edition In Japan

Lexus announced a series of model year updates for the NX in Japan, highlighted by the addition of the Overtrail trim which is more suitable for off-road adventures. The SUV also benefits from improvements in handling and ride quality, new color options, and enhanced standard equipment.

Starting with the Lexus NX Overtrail, it might not be as extreme as the equivalent trim of the GX but adds a few useful features for those who wish to take the compact SUV off the beaten track. A new set of 18-inch alloy wheels shod in all-terrain tires improve the off-road credentials in combination with a 15 mm (0.6 inches) increase in ground clearance. There is also an Overtrail-specific setting for the Adaptive Variable Suspension system that is said to reduce shaking when driving on uneven surfaces.

For the exterior, Lexus designers chose black accents (wheels, grille, window garnish, door handles, mirror caps, and roof rails) contrasting with the new Moon Desert exterior shade option. Inside, there is an exclusive Monolith / black color combination for the upholstery, with stylish wood accents on the door cards.

The Overtrail edition is available for the NX350 (non-electrified 2.4-liter), NX350h (2.5-liter HEV), and NX450h+ (2.5-liter PHEV) versions of the SUV, without any changes on the powertrains.

Chassis Upgrades And Improved Equipment For All NX Trims

As part of the model year updates for 2024, Lexus engineers retuned the suspension of the NX for improved handling and comfort and increased the rigidity of the chassis by adding extra bracing. All of the AWD-capable versions gain an improved Trail mode, while the NX350, NX350h, and NX450h+ have slightly better performance. Finally, the NVH credentials have been improved with less engine noise getting through inside the cabin.

The 2024 Lexus NX does not bring any visual updates, setting aside a new Sonic Copper exterior shade and a new Hazel interior option. Furthermore, the “version L” models are distinguished by the body-colored fender garnish and are available with a Solis White interior.

Equipment has been improved throughout the lineup. The 14-inch infotainment touchscreen from the NX450h+ is now standard in the NX250 and NX350h models, replacing the old 9.8-inch unit. All models gain lighting on the rear door handles, two USB-C ports on the center console, and a visible VIN plate on the windshield. The F Sport trim of the NX350 and NX350h now feature full LED headlights with adaptive high beams. There are also new optional features like the panoramic sunroof which is available for the NX450h+ after popular demand.

The updated 2024 Lexus NX is already available to order in Japan. The entry-level NX250 2WD starts from ¥5,120,000 ($34,023), while the most expensive NX450h+ Overtrail AWD tops out at ¥7,725,000 ($51,334). Since the debut of the original in 2014, Lexus has sold 1.42 million units of the NX in more than 90 countries. The hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions currently account for more than 56 percent of the SUV’s sales.
