A series of minor updates have been made to the Toyota Corolla Cross for the 2024 model year in Japan that will make it both more efficient and give it some extra grunt.
The changes start with the Corolla Cross which ditches the 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid used previously and replaces it with a smaller-capacity 1.8-liter engine. Toyota has also revamped various parts of the hybrid system to improve fuel efficiency and boost power, although it has not yet revealed consumption figures.
Shoppers not interested in the hybrid version of the Corolla Cross have the option of an ICE variant that’s now powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder as opposed to the 1.8-liter that was formerly used.

Beyond the powertrain updates, Toyota has improved the SUV’s Safety Sense system to include a better proactive driving assist function and a pre-crash safety function for oncoming vehicles and pedestrians. A new-and-improved 10.5-inch infotainment display is also featured in the new model as is a 12.3-inch TFT digital instrument cluster. The 2024 Corolla Cross also comes with Wi-Fi and is now available in eight colors including a new shade of gray.
Prices for the 2024 Corolla Cross vary between 2,184,000 yen ($15,574) and 3,459,000 yen ($23,084). It is not yet known when the 2024 updates in Japan will be offered in other markets.
In the U.S., the Corolla Cross range recently grew with the addition of the Nightshade special edition. This new version is based on the existing SE and adds 18-inch gloss black wheels, black-accented headlights and taillights, and black and red trim throughout the interior. Shoppers can order the Nightshade in either Jet Black, Barcelona Red with a Jet Black roof, or Celestite Gray with a Jet Black Roof.
