2024 Toyota Mirai Gets Interior Upgrades And New Tech In Japan

[ad_1]

The Toyota Crown Sedan is set to steal the Mirai’s thunder, but the model isn’t going anywhere. Quite the opposite as the automaker has announced a handful of updates for 2024.

Launching in Japan on December 18, the 2024 Mirai doubles down on safety as it now comes equipped with the latest Toyota Safety Sense system. The company didn’t go into many specifics, but said drivers will find a Proactive Driving Assist function that “provides deceleration … and steering support.” It’s a bit like a nanny and it can be a little intrusive in our experience.

A rough translation of the trim guide suggests buyers will also find a pre-collision system with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane change assist. Customers can also expect adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, road sign assist, and a blind spot monitor.

Besides traditional driver assistance systems, the Japanese Mirai will continue to be offered with the Teammate semi-autonomous driving system. There’s also an Advanced Park function that “allows anyone to park safely and smoothly.”

Additional changes are limited, but more trims now come equipped with 12.3-inch displays. There’s also a new 64-color ambient lighting system as well as digital key technology.

});

It remains unclear if any of the upgrades will make their way to the US-spec Mirai, but the Teammate system is already offered in America. Since Toyota didn’t mention any powertrain updates, we can expect three hydrogen storage tanks, a fuel cell, a 1.24 kWh lithium-ion battery, and a 182 hp (136 kW / 185 PS) electric motor that powers the rear wheels.
