The Queensland Reds have had their bubble burst by the Western Force, who have hauled themselves off the Super Rugby Pacific canvas with a 40-31 upset in Perth on Saturday.

The Force were winless before the round five clash while the Reds were gathering hype as a potential title contender under new coach Les Kiss.

An Australian team hasn’t won a combined Super Rugby title since the NSW Waratahs in 2014.

The Reds haven’t lifted the trophy since 2011 in Brisbane.

“It feels good to be able to put a performance out there for the Sea of Blue,” Force halfback Nic White said.

“It’s been coming… that first half of probably the first half hour or so, it was such a good defensive effort. That’s probably where it was built.

“We’ve just got to start doing it for a lot longer. 31 points, we’re not happy with that. That’s not a good defensive effort, but there’s patches there and we’ll enjoy tonight. We’ll celebrate those but we’re going to have to be better.”

The Hurricanes sit top of the table after their comfortable 54-28 win over the Melbourne Rebels in Palmerston North on Friday night.

The ACT Brumbies (4-1) are the leading Australian team after outclassing Moana Pasifika 60-21 on Friday.
