HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Many spots across southeast Teas away from the coast reach 100 degrees Sunday, the first of several days during this heat wave we’re expecting those triple digit temperatures.
A Heat Advisory for all of southeast Texas is in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday. This is as the next heat ridge builds into the southwest and will slide our way throughout the week. Morning lows will be in the upper 70s or near 80 degrees in the morning with afternoon high temperatures consistently at or above 100 degrees for most. Closer to the coast it’ll be in the mid-upper 90s. Regardless, heat index values will make it feel like 105 to 108 degrees outside in the afternoon. An Ozone Pollution Watch is also in effect for Harris, Galveston and Brazoria county on Monday.
IS there anything difference about this heat wave?
To some extent, yes. One small difference this time around is the lack of the most oppressive humidity. Dew point temperatures aren’t expected to be as high as previous heat waves, only in the upper 60s or low 70s instead. It’s also why temperatures are more likely to make it above 100 degrees this week.
How are rain chances looking for this week?
This heat wave will be hot and dry. One thing to point out is the storm threat across Louisiana and far eastern portions of Texas Monday. It’s possible a rogue shower or storm could slide west close to us. So areas north of I-10 and east o I-45 could see a shower or storm, but that’s abut a 20-30 percent chance for that area only.
What else are you monitoring in the tropics right now?
We’re monitoring a couple of tropical waves over the central Atlantic, one of which has a high chance for development over the next 7 days. For a full overview of what’s happening in the tropics, head to our Tropical Update page.
