Liverpool v Sheffield Utd Predicted Lineups: Likely XIs

[ad_1]

One of the best teams in the Premier League face one of the worst at Anfield on Thursday evening as Liverpool play host to Sheffield United.

Liverpool are still the best-positioned team to win the 2023/24 Premier League title, while the Blades need a miracle to escape relegation to the Championship.

Liverpool have a long list of injuries including Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Joel Matip, Ben Doak, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic.

However, they will be boosted by the likely returns of Andy Robertson and Curtis Jones, who have recovered from an ankle and shin issue respectively.

Alisson reported back for training this week, but Thursday’s match will probably come too soon for a start, which means another start for Caoimhin Kelleher.

Ibrahima Konate and Robertson could come into the starting XI at the expense of Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah, alongside Virgil van Dijk and Conor Bradley.

If Jones isn’t at 100%, expect the same midfield trio of Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.

Jurgen Klopp does have more options in attack, but it seems Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz are his preferred three for the moment.

Liverpool (4-3-3): Kelleher, Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Endo, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Nunez, Diaz.

Chris Basham, John Egan, Max Lowe, Rhys Norrington-Davies, Rhian Brewster, Tom Davies, Cameron Archer and George Baldock are all missing due to injury for the Blades, while Daniel Jebbison is out due to illness.

Vinicius Souza was taken off in the Fulham game due to cramp, but he should be fine to start again against Liverpool.

Sheffield Utd (3-5-2): Grbic; Holgate, Ahmedhodzic, Robinson; Bogle, Souza, Norwood, Hamer, Osborn; Brereton Diaz, McBurnie.
