‘Dumb question’: Klopp fumes after dramatic Cup exit

Jurgen Klopp has stormed out of a post-match interview following Liverpool’s dramatic 4-3 extra-time loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

With their season hanging in the balance, Erik ten Hag’s team produced one of the most important wins of his tenure to beat their long-time rivals.

With nearly the last kick of the match, substitute Amad Diallo sent Old Trafford into raptures, ending Liverpool’s bid for a quadruple of trophies and firing United into the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament.

Ten Hag has faced mounting speculation about his position in the face of a troubled campaign and restructuring at the club, but the FA Cup represents his last chance of silverware this season in Manchester.

Defeat against the club’s fiercest rival would likely have seen pressure on the Dutchman grow, but Diallo’s late strike was enough to secure a berth in the final four.

Diallo was dealt a red card after taking his shirt off in the heat of the moment, but claimed it was all worth it for a place at Wembley Stadium.

“It’s the best goal of my life, it’s a really important moment,” he said.

“I am disappointed to be sent off, but what is important is to win.

“To beat Liverpool is a big, big moment for me.”

The dramatic result clearly took a toll on the opposition manager however, with Klopp storming out of a post-match interview and insulting a reporter.

When quizzed on his side’s lack of energy in extra-time, the Reds boss hit back and took a shot at the interviewer’s appearance, before walking off camera.

”Bit of a dumb question I feel,” he said.

“We have played, I don’t know how many games recently. I don’t know how many games United have exactly played. That’s sport. I’m really disappointed with that question, but you thought, obviously, it’s good.

“You are obviously not in a great shape and I have no nerves for you.”

Twelve-time FA Cup winner United was later drawn against second-tier Coventry in the semis, while Chelsea also advanced with a 4-2 win over Leicester City.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team was given a scare against Leicester at Stamford Bridge – especially after some poor errors from Raheem Sterling – but managed to secure a spot against powerhouse club Manchester City in the semis.

The next round of the FA Cup will take place on April 21, with the final on May 25.
