When Ben Te Kura takes to the field this evening, he will become the tallest player to ever feature in the NRL.
Standing at 205 centimetres, the 19-year-old is five centimetres taller than Storm giant Nelson Asofa-Solomona.
Te Kura will start on the bench after prop Xavier Willison suffered a concussion at training.
“He’s a bit taller than most people so that brings a bit of attention towards him but he’s a footballer, certainly, and it’s great that he gets his opportunity to make his NRL debut,” Broncos coach Kevin Walters told media this week.
Te Kura played his first full year in the Hostplus Cup last season and was selected for the Queensland Under 19 Origin team.
Asked how the teen would handle the step up to the NRL, Walters was unconcerned.
“He’ll be fine. We’ve got a lot of faith and confidence. He’s been in our system [for] two years now and I feel he’s maturing enough to be able to handle the NRL and what it provides,” Walters said.
“It’s very exciting for him.”
