A man has suffered significant injuries after an altercation with a bull on a property in rural Queensland.

The 60-year-old was lucky to escape alive after he was crushed by a bull on a property about 56km southeast of Rockhampton in central Queensland.

He suffered broken ribs and internal injuries in the incident before being flown to Rockhampton Hospital by crews from RACQ CapRescue.

“This morning, Rescue300 travelled to a town 35 miles southwest of Rockhampton to retrieve a patient who had experienced an altercation with a 300kg beast,” a RACQ spokesperson said in a statement.

“The man in his 60s was crushed in the yards by the steer on his property and has suffered suspected broken ribs and internal injuries.”

The spokesperson said Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics reached the man by road and had stabilised him before transporting him to the Wowan sports fields.

The RACQ CapRescue medical crew then arrived and prepared him to be flown to the Rockhampton Hospital for further scans and treatment.
