Tottenham fans rage after ‘mental’ Romero red card VAR footage revealed – Footymercato.com

Tottenham fans have reacted with rage to the “mental” VAR footage of Cristian Romero’s red card against Chelsea last Monday (6 November).
The Argentine won the ball in the box but followed through with a high boot on Enzo Fernandez in the build-up to Moises Caicedo’s disallowed goal and was controversially dismissed after a five-minute check.
Following the chaotic run of play, referee Michael Oliver was sent to the monitor and agreed with the VAR officials that the offence was wreckless.
PGMOL chief Howard Webb went on Sky Sports to explain the decision and praised the matchday officials for their “excellent process” in the 4-1 thriller at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The footage did little to convince Spurs fans who took to social media to criticise the “mental” series of decisions.
One fan claimed that Oliver was “completely influenced” by VAR’s decision and did not feel Romero’s follow-through was worthy of a straight red.
Some fans found it “ridiculous” that Raheem Sterling could not be cautioned for his “blatant” dive before Romero’s challenge.
One fan deemed the sequence of decisions incorrect because they acknowledged Sterling’s dive, gave him no warning and admitted that Romero won possession.
This fan claimed the officials are nothing more than “nerds faffing” and insisted that they be replaced.
This supporter had few words to say about the footage but was far from impressed.
One fan pointed to the seeming inconsistencies between VAR, AVAR and Oliver himself.
In other news, Eric Dier ‘seriously interested’ in quitting Tottenham to join Bayern Munich.
