2023-24 Premier League: Week 13 – Everton vs Manchester United

[ad_1]

Following a points deduction, Everton begin their fight for survival against Manchester United at Goodison Park.

Victory would put Everton up to 18th and two points from safety, whilst Man Utd can return to sixth with a win.

Amadou Onana is set to feature for Everton after he withdrew from international duty for Belgium with a calf injury.

Andros Gomes (calf) could feature but Seamus Coleman (knee) and Dele Alli (hip) remain absent.

Man Utd could welcome Rasmus Højlund back into contention after a muscle injury forced him to withdraw from the Denmark squad.

Christian Eriksen (knee) is however ruled out after he too withdrew from international duty for Denmark, whilst Mason Mount (calf) will also be sidelined.

Andre Onana (adductor), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (illness),  Luke Shaw (muscle) and Tyrell Malacia (knee) are expected to be available, but Facundo Pellistri (knock) is unlikely to be risked.

Jonny Evans (thigh), Lisandro Martinez (foot), Casmiro (hamstring), Jadon Sancho (personal) and Amad Diallo (knee) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Everton host Man Utd at Goodison Park on Sunday 26 November in a 4:30pm GMT kick-off, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Everton  have won one of their last eight league meetings against Man Utd (W1, D4, L3).
  • Man Utd have claimed seven points in their last five visits to Everton (W2, D1, L2).
  • Everton have scored in each of their last five league games at home to Man Utd, during which they netted eight goals and conceded six goals.
  • Vitaliy Mykolenko has scored the opening goal in each of Everton’s last two matches (W2).
  • Man Utd have scored in four of their five league matches on the road this season.

Prediction

After the furore surrounding their ten-point deduction during the international break which put them in a definite relegation scrap, I expect Everton to be super-motivated for this game especially in front of a potentially electric home crowd who will roar them on loudly.

Sean Dyche’s Toffees also should be buoyed by their recent form with one defeat in their last five which shows that they can certainly fight for survival, but they must avoid the defensive errors of their win at Crystal Palace if want to stand a chance of winning here.

Man Utd meanwhile were lucky to beat Luton last time in a scrappy performance where their end product was pretty poor aside from a clinical moment, so there is work to do but if Højlund missees out then Marcus Rashford and co must step up and show more composure up front.

Utd though won’t just be playing Everton but also the home fans who will want the Toffees to get a home win to send a defiant message to the Premier League, so I do expect this to be a fiercely competitive clash which could well finish in a draw.

Prediction: Everton 1-1 Manchester United
