Gunfire outside of Katy Mills Mall stemmed from fight amongst juveniles, police say

KATY, Texas (KTRK) — At least three people were shot outside of Katy Mills Mall on Saturday evening after an altercation, according to police.

The video above is from ABC13’s Live Streaming Channel.

As ABC13 crews arrived on scene, a heavy police presence could be seen as police roped off the entire mall as an investigation was ongoing.

The incident happened just after 9:10 p.m.

In a press conference, officials confirmed the gunfire stemmed from a fight between two groups, believed to be juveniles, outside of the mall near one of the main entrances.

In the melee, at least three young people were injured, and said to have suffered non-life-threatening wounds.

According to police, one of the injured victims ran inside the mall through Entrance 5 to escape the gunfire.

The mall, in its entirety was evacuated as police cleared the area.

Those inside the mall at the time spoke to ABC13 and said they heard several gunshots ring out.

Police said they also recovered a stolen car at the scene that may have been involved, but officials say they are waiting on surveillance video to confirm.

Officials say at least 6 people, including those who were injured, were detained.
