McLaren F1 Windshield Replacement Costs More Than A New Toyota Prius

[ad_1]

The McLaren F1 is an exceedingly expensive car. Estimates indicate that a well-maintained example can fetch approximately $20,000,000 in the market. Therefore, it’s unsurprising that the costs associated with replacement parts and repairs are also extraordinarily high.

The question of how much it would cost to replace the windshield of a McLaren F1 recently went viral. This came after Colleen Sheehan, whose primary occupation involves selling high-end classics, shared a video featuring two of these cars parked side-by-side with cracked windshields at the Velocity Invitational event held at Sonoma Raceway in California.

It’s a fascinating question, as the windshield not only adorns a multi-million dollar car but also boasts an unusually shaped design. Thanks to the car’s aerodynamic lines, it features a sizable piece of glass at the front that can be dried by a single windshield wiper.

McLaren F1 Windshield Replacement Costs More Than A New Toyota Prius

As you might expect, the cost of replacing the part is scandalously steep. Motor1 cites unnamed sources familiar with the McLaren F1, who report that the windshield alone costs approximately $25,000 to purchase. However, that’s just the beginning.

Considering the F1’s exorbitant price tag and its longstanding status as the fastest car on earth, getting the new glass installed doesn’t come cheap. The work adds another $8,000 to the price of the job, bringing the total up to a cool $33,000. We have reached out to McLaren for comment, but have not yet heard back.

Since only millionaires (and billionaires) own the car, that’s not likely to be too much of a concern, but it is still a remarkable amount of money. That’s enough to buy a 2024 Subaru BRZ, with some money left over optional extras. In fact, you could buy two 2023 Chevrolet Sparks for that amount, with a couple of grand leftover for a vacation.

The good news for McLaren F1 owners, is that the automaker reportedly still has a few original replacement windshields kicking around at the factory. Furthermore, the company is in the process of engineering and manufacturing new glass for the car, ensuring that owners will have a steady supply for years to come.

In addition to windshields, McLaren is also reportedly manufacturing new aluminum fuel tanks and magnesium for the aging F1.
