Spencer’s Hawkins, aka Player 299, was unfortunately eliminated from the Netflix competition show Squid Game: The Challenge after he broke his cookie while trying to carve out an umbrella during the Dalgona cookie challenge.

The streamer posted a video of the ‘dramatic’ exit where Spencer collapsed to the floor as if he had been really shot on their X(Twitter) account, and it quickily divided opinions.

The streamer tweeted the caption: “299 had one of the most dramatic reality show exits of all time. #SquidGameTheChallenge.”

Some show fans agreed that his exit was a bit excessive as one wrote:  “Dude needs to chill, it ain’t that deep, I mean its a gameshow on Netflix bro lmao.”

A second reacted: “Show’s great. That dude stressed me out. He definitely needs help with handling his stress and anxiety. Poor guy…”

A third chimed in: “My thing is, why did he keep gagging and crying like dude come on. I felt bad, but then that dramatic a** exit was way too much, lol.”

Other fans of the show empathised with the contestant as one said: “To be fair, being in that position must have sucked. I felt bad for him.”

Another added: “I adore him so much. Give him a Series.”

A third followed: “Little overacting, but we take it. Player 299 eliminated.  We are all squids.”

A fourth expressed: “I hope they offer some sort of on-set counselling. Lol, this has to cross some ethical guidelines.”

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Spencer revealed that his decision to join Squid Game: The Challenge was based on how he was a cancer survivor.

The day he was eliminated, he was made the leader of a team tasked with the cookie challenge, which involved players extracting a circle, triangle, star or umbrella from a honeycomb cookie without breaking it.

He explained: “It was a demanding day. After the decision being made for which cookie shape we each get, it took a few hours for different groups to be able to compete.

“And so I had to be separated from my line for a time before I was even able to come back to them.

He continued: “In that time, I was trying to get into the mental headspace to be able to prepare for the game, drinking lots of water while trying to save up spit in my mouth.

“So I was getting physically exhausted while also feeling all the emotions of everything. And then, finally, it’s time to come into the room, and there’s not much energy left.”

Player 299 also admitted that he became ill when he saw his teammate’s disheartening reactions.

He said: “Difficulty for myself, that’s one thing I can handle. But when you’re talking about difficulty for others, that’s my responsibility.”

He added: “That’s a weight that doesn’t really go away. It was like seeing friends who are hurting, because that’s how I ultimately viewed everyone else there, as a friend. I did feel physically sick.”
