Days after his goal of the season contender against Everton, the Argentina international silenced the rocking home support on Wednesday night after 11 minutes with a clever finish.

It was the first of six goals on a thrilling night in Istanbul which ended in a 3-3 draw, a result that leaves United’s hopes of reaching the last 16 of the competition hanging by a thread.

After opening the scoring, Garnacho raced into the corner of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Galatasaray fans, cupping his ear to the crowd.

Fernando Muslera, in goal for the home side, raced 40 yards up the pitch to confront the 19-year-old with the United youngster’s teammates stepping into calm the situation.

Captain Bruno Fernandes appeared to be trying to subdue Garnacho as he celebrated.

Antony was also on the scene with the Brazil winger seen raising his hands to seemingly apologise to the home support.

The former Ajax star was praised by Galatasaray fans on social media with Turkish publication Fanatik reporting he ‘won the fans’ hearts’ with the classy gesture.

Antony has endured a troubled second season at United following his £85million move from Ajax last summer having failed to score or assist in 12 appearances this term.

The winger turned in an improved display against the Turkish champions but a draw means United’s Champions League fate is now out of their hands heading into the final round of group games.

Erik ten Hag’s side must now beat Bayern Munich, who have already qualified as group winners, at Old Trafford in two weeks’ time and hope for a draw between Copenhagen and Galatasaray in the group’s other game.

‘We were winning and then we’re losing [points]. We should have taken three points, clear,’ ten Hag said post-match.

‘That is also [the case] in more games: at home against Galatasaray, away in Copenhagen, we played so good. I have to make a big compliment to the team but, in the same moment, I have to criticise the team and us: as a coaching staff and me, as a manager.

‘We are not defending good enough. We are leading 3-1 and you can’t afford the mistakes we’re making, because that makes the difference.’
