2023-24 Premier League: Week 14 – Burnley vs Sheffield United
[ad_1]
Burnley meet Sheffield United at Turf Moor in a huge clash in the race for Premier League survival.
Victory would see Burnley leapfrog Sheffield United into 18th position, whilst Paul Heckingbottom’s Blades can stay third bottom with a win and potentially move to within one point of safety.
Team News
Arijanet Muric is again considered a doubt for Burnley after he missed their defeat to West Ham due to illness.
Jack Cork (unspecified) and Lyle Foster (illness) remain absent.
Sheffield Utd have no fresh injury concerns to report after their loss to Bournemouth.
Chris Basham (ankle), John Egan (foot), Rhian Brewster, Rhys Norrington-Davies (both hamstring), Tom Davies (thigh) and Daniel Jebbison (illness) are still sidelined.
When is Kick-Off?
Burnley host Sheffield Utd at Turf Moor in a 3pm GMT kick-off on Saturday 2 December.
Stat Attack
- Burnley have won one of their four previous Premier League meetings against Sheffield Utd (W1, D1, L2).
- Sheffield Utd have picked one point from two previous trips to Burnley in the Premier League. (D1, L1).
- The team playing at home in the last two Premier League meetings between these two teams have won by a 1-0 result.
- No Burnley player this season has had more shots on target than Zeki Amdouni, who has converted nine of his 21 shots onto target.
- Chris Basham and Ben Osborn have been utilised as a substitute on more occasions in the league this season than any other Sheffield Utd player, with five substitute appearances apiece.
Prediction
Although they currently sit bottom of the table, Burnley showed against West Ham that they do have the potential to mount a serious challenge for survival, yet their defensive mistakes do seem to be their Achilles heel especially coming into this early relegation six-pointer.
Sheffield Utd meanwhile were absolutely awful in their defeat at home to Bournemouth because they were totally outclassed with little quality, aside from second-half injury time so a huge requirement is needed across 90 minutes here.
Neither team can keep a clean sheet just to boot so unless both clubs decide to try and not concede and play defensively, I can see goals here and a draw wouldn’t be too surprising an outcome.
Prediction: Burnley 1-1 Sheffield United
