Ross cited wanting to spend more time with his family and some of the injuries he suffered later in his career as factors in his decision.
The 32-year-old from Portland, Ore. spent parts five seasons with the Raptors, seven with the Orlando Magic and one with the Phoenix Suns.
He last played with Phoenix in the 2022-23 season after being waived by Orlando and picked up by the Suns for the end of the regular season and their trip to the Western Conference semifinals.
Ross was Toronto’s first-round pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, being selected eighth overall. While with the Raptors, he scored a career-best 51 points against the Los Angeles Clippers in 2014 — at the time it tied Vince Carter’s franchise’s single-game scoring record.
It is still tied for the fourth-best individual scoring effort in franchise history.
A product of Washington University, Ross was also the second Raptors player to ever win a Slam Dunk Contest. He defeated Jeremy Evans in the final of the 2013 event.
Toronto traded him to the Magic at the 2017 trade deadline as part of a package for Serge Ibaka.
Ross appeared at Orlando’s game agasint the Washington Wizards on Friday night and received an ovation from the crowd.
