Alpine have signed Formul 4 driver, Nicola Lacorte to their Driver Academy for 2024.

Lacorte spent the 2023 season racing with PREMA in Italian F4 where he finished ninth overall in the championship, with one win plus a single other podium finish – as he finish third in the opening race of the season at Imola before he won the third race at that same round.

The 16 year-old Italian also finished fifth highest in the rookie class during which he claimed two rookie wins and two second-placed finishes across the season.

Speaking about his decision to join Alpine’s Academy, Lacorte commented: “It is a great pleasure for me to join BWT Alpine F1 Team’s driver development programme and to have the opportunity to work with the Alpine Academy team for the upcoming 2024 season and beyond.

“I am thankful to have the trust of the Alpine Academy management and I am more than sure that this opportunity will help me to progress in my career and aid in my further development, both as a driver and a person.”

Alpine Interim Sporting Director, Julian Rouse added that the team “are continuing to expand the Alpine Academy programme…” having in October signed Kush Maini who will race in F2 next season with Virtuosi in a switch from Campos.

Rouse also spoke of his excitement at helping Lacorte develop as he continued: “We are looking forward to helping Nicola develop as a driver, both on and off the track.

“As with our current drivers, Nicola will benefit from the support and knowledge of both the Alpine Academy and the wider BWT Alpine F1 Team.”

Lacorte will also receive access to Alpine’s F1 facilities at Enstone, UK as part of his development on and off the track.

Details of Lacorte’s racing plans for 2024 will be announced in due course with FRECA rumoured to be his next series on the road to F1.
