Last week, our spy photographers stumbled across a prototype for the 2025 Audi A5 Avant, and unlike some others we’ve seen in recent months, this prototype was largely free of camouflage, giving us a good glimpse of its thoroughly updated design. A set of new renderings preview how the new looks will likely translate into production.
These renderings from Kolesa show that the A5 Avant’s front end will look slightly more subtle and refined than the outgoing A4 Avant with an altogether simpler design that should age more gracefully. Immediately catching the eye is the overhauled grille which is slightly wider than that of the current car but is also slimmer and has been showcased with silver elements.

The presence of this slimmer grille has also allowed the designer to increase the size of the lower grille. Additionally, the far-too-large faux air intakes of the current model with simple black plastic have been replaced with small triangular intakes and far more body-colored surfaces. The shape of the headlights has also been altered and like the grille, they too are slightly slimmer and wider than those of the current car.
Changes continue alongside the sides of the 2025 A5 Avant where new door handles sitting flush with the bodywork have been fitted. The profile of the roof is also a little different, as are the shapes of the side windows.
Recent prototypes have also revealed the rear of the new model will be quite different. New LED taillights stand out and there should also be a full-width LED light bar. The A5 Avant featured in these renderings also has a revised rear bumper.
The Audi A5 Avant forms part of Audi’s updated range where combustion-engined models will have odd numbers and EVs will have even numbers, hence why the A4 will become the A5. It will likely be offered with a similar array of engines to the current A4, including four-cylinder mild-hybrids, diesels in certain markets, and at least two plug-in hybrids.
