Despite raking in decent monthly numbers of the Jimny in terms of sales, Maruti Suzuki has dropped a bomb by introducing some never-seen-before discounts for the compact off-roader. For December 2023, Maruti Suzuki has dropped the prices of Jimny significantly – almost Rs 2 lakh for the Zeta and Rs 1 lakh for the Alpha variants. With this drop in pricing, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny has become much more affordable than its direct rival, the Mahindra Thar, with the margins widening to as much as Rs lakh now.

Maruti Suzuki has introduced a price drop of Rs 2 lakh for the base-spec Zeta variant, which like the top-end Alpha variant, is available with both manual and automatic transmissions. After the offer discounts, the on-road price of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny Zeta variant in Delhi has come down to Rs 12.68 lakh. This new reduced on-road price of Jimny Zeta makes it Rs 5 lakh cheaper than the Mahindra Thar 4×4 LX petrol-manual hard top, which is available for an on-road price of Rs 17.68 lakh in Delhi. Even the Jimny Alpha variant is much more affordable than this variant of Thar petrol-manual after accounting for the Rs 1 lakh discount on it.

With this wide price gap, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny Zeta manual, despite being a lower-spec variant of the off-roader, seems like a much more sensible option over the Thar 4×4 petrol-manual hard-top. Here are the reasons which justify the preference for Jimny Zeta over the Thar LX, making it a much sweeter deal for off-road driving enthusiasts:

A more practical five-door layout in Jimny

Compared to the Mahindra Thar, which for the time being is available solely in the three-door configuration, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny is offered with a five-door configuration as standard. The extra rear doors on offer make ingress and egress for rear seat occupants much easier in the Jimny, which has always been a concern in the Thar.

Jimny is a lot more affordable

With the discounts, the Jimny Zeta is almost Rs 5 lakh more affordable than the Thar LX, which is a significant saving of money. This huge sum of money can be handy for those off-road driving enthusiasts who love prepping their SUVs with after-market accessories to enhance the driveability of their vehicles, such as off-road bumpers, suspension components and tyres.

The Thar has always come under scrutiny for its choppy ride quality, even at lower speeds. However, no such issue is there in the Jimny, which feels rock solid at lower speeds and even over the worst of the potholes and speed breakers. The compact dimensions of the Jimny also allow it to tackle the daily city traffic and congested lanes much better than the larger-sized Thar.

More features on offer in the Jimny

Compared to the Thar LX, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny Zeta misses out on features like alloy wheels and front fog lamps. However, these features are available as add-ons from Maruti Suzuki at reasonable prices. At the same time, the Jimny Zeta comes with many more features on offer over the Thar LX, such as a more modern infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electrically adjustable ORVMs, reverse camera and rolling-down functionality of the rear windows. Even the Alpha variant, which is also substantially more affordable than the Thar LX, gets more goodies over the latter, including projector headlamps, headlamp washers, a larger-sized infotainment screen, auto AC and push start-stop button.

Lesser waiting period than the Thar

With heavy discounts on offer, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny Zeta is readily available off the showroom floors, which can be a bonus over the Thar 4×4, which commands a waiting period between 2-6 months.
