St. Patrick High School in Thunder Bay, Ont., has received a second threat Wednesday, resulting in the school being placed under its second hold and secure of the day.
The first hold and secure was lifted at the school around 11 a.m. on Wednesday after the high school was deemed safe by police. However, shortly before 1:30 p.m., the school board announced it would be going back into a hold and secure due to a second threat made.
Classes will continue as per usual, and students are expected to be dismissed at the regular time.
“The safety of our students and staff is our main concern,” the board said in a news release shortly before 9 a.m.
The south side high school was forced to close both Monday and Tuesday this week due to threats.
“We are disheartened with these continual threats, but the safety of our students and staff is our top priority,” the board said in a news release earlier this week.
Today’s incident marks the fifth time the school has had to take such precautions in the past month due to threats and is the latest in a string of threats that have also impacted other Catholic schools in Thunder Bay and across northern Ontario over the past month.
The school board asks anyone with information about the situation to contact the Thunder Bay Police Service at 807-684-1200 or Crimestoppers at 807-623-8477. People can also submit anonymous tips online at www.p3tips.com.
