In her video, Xan Sibley (@xan.sibley) revealed how she and her husband celebrate Christmas with their children.

The TikToker explained that the couple is trying out the method while their kids are still young.

“So we do Christmas gifts with our kids a little bit differently, the main difference from mainstream celebrations is that we don’t do gifts on Christmas,” Xan told her followers.

She revealed that the idea occurred to them while they were still expecting their first child.

“Our neighbors next door, they were really solid believers and they had seven children,” Xan said.

“They were talking about how they didn’t do gifts on Christmas and they basically said, well I think she was joking, ‘It’s Jesus’ birthday, why do we get gifts on Jesus’ birthday?’” she continued.

“She was saying she didn’t want her kids to associate Christmas with gifts so they do theirs on New Year’s Day,” she explained.

Xan told her audience the family “don’t want it to be about the consumerism.”

The pair wanted their children to understand the true meaning behind the advent season.

While they still give their kids gifts, they hold off until New Year’s and limit them to three per child to honor the presents from the Wise Men.

“We’ve debated doing that whole idea of something to wear, something to read, something you want, something you need, which I really like,” Xan explained.

She added that when it comes to gifts from their family and friends, the couple usually ask for experiences over material items.

“We are so grateful for them every single time like zoo passes, museum passes, swim lessons, gymnastics lessons, all those types of things are the best Christmas presents in our book,” she said.

Xan explained that this also helps her to combat an already cluttered home.

TikTok users took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the parenting technique.

“I feel like when they’re little they don’t understand either way so just make it magical then when they get older they won’t associate with presents,” said one viewer.

“Great idea, by the time they’re older it’ll just be tradition by then anyway! They’ll love it,” wrote another follower.

“I always had a big Christmas but my dad always bought a cake that said ‘Happy birthday Jesus,'” commented a third person.
