Sevilla veteran Ivan Rakitic has expressed his disappointment after the sacking of Diego Alonso as manager of the club.
Recall that Alonso was sacked on Saturday after the team dismal performance against Getafe, where the Sevilla lost 3-0 at home.
Reacting to the development, Rakitic told TribalFootball that he takes the blame for Alonso’s sack and promise that the team will step up their game.
“I’m sad. Sad for me, sad for all the dressing room, all of us who wear the Sevilla shield and I’m going to go ahead.

“I apologise to our people, to our fans, to those who support us at all times. I apologise but I promise more work than ever. It is the hardest, saddest and most complicated moment of my career, but I will not give up until I return Sevilla to where it belongs.
“I promise the involvement of everyone to turn around the situation. I want to thank Diego for all his work, for everything he has given us and I apologise that everything we have prepared has not come out. It’s time to not talk too much and apologise again. It’s easy to talk when you win things and we’re celebrating. That’s why I put myself ahead. I am the captain and the person most responsible for the squad.
“I promise the maximum demanded to turn this situation around.”
