Men rob ATM & escape with cash in Mahindra Scorpio: CCTV footage

[ad_1]

Every bank in India offers ATM services. India’s biggest public sector bank, State Bank of India, also offers the same. A few days ago, a robbery was reported at one of SBI’s ATMs in Uttarakhand. The incident happened on Friday, and CCTV footage of the robbery has surfaced online. The robbers used a Mahindra Scorpio SUV to flee the spot after the robbery.

The incident took place in the Dhandera area of Roorkee in Uttarakhand. The video seen here has been circulating online after the robbery. According to the reports available online, miscreants stole around Rs 13 lakh from the ATM last Friday. In the video, a Mahindra Scorpio is parked on the road with no one around. The robbery was probably done late at night or early in the morning when nobody was there. A few seconds into the video, we see a man walking with a heavy box in his hand.

The person is wearing a shawl over his head, intentionally done to hide his identity. The first person comes running towards the SUV and opens the tailgate. The man keeps the box in the boot. As the first person was about to keep the box in the boot, the second person can be seen rushing towards the car with another box. As the person walks to the car, his shawl falls to the ground. He doesn’t stop and continues to walk forward. After keeping the box in the boot, he comes back and picks up the shawl.

A third person walks to the car and keeps another box in the car. All three men were seen walking out of the ATM. As seen in the video, the SUV was parked on the side of the road. The number plate of the SUV is not visible in the video, and it is quite possible that the robbers were using a fake registration number or a stolen vehicle for this purpose. The cops suspect that a team of 4-5 people were involved in this robbery. As we already know, breaking into an ATM and taking out cash is extremely difficult.

The thieves were probably aware of these difficulties. In order to make things easier for themselves, they carried a gas cutter with them. They cut the ATM using a gas cutter and took out the metal cash boxes or trays in which the currency notes are fed. Usually, ATMs have a security system installed which sends a notification or alarm to the bank in case of a robbery or an attempt to break in. It is not known whether the system was disabled or it failed completely in this case. The incident came to light when people passing through the road during their morning walk saw the damaged ATM and burnt currency notes lying in the cabin. The police have already created 5 teams to nab the robbers. Thieves took away around Rs 13 lakh from the machine. They are yet to trace the vehicle in which the thieves escaped the spot.

This is not the first time we have come across an incident like this. Last week, a similar incident was reported from Bhubaneswar where thieves stole around Rs 10 lakh from the ATM of a nationalized bank near Lingaraj Temple. Not all attempts of such robberies are successful. A few months ago, we came across a video from Maharashtra where two men who attempted to rob an ATM in ‘Fast and Furious’ style failed terribly.
