The list is dominated by cars from Maruti – Swift, WagonR, Baleno and Dzire. The only automatic that is from another brand is the Tata Punch.
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R -4 AMT variants between Rs 6-8 lakh
Starting off with the most affordable AMT (automated manual transmission) cars in this budget, it is the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R. This tall boy hatchback starts at Rs 6.54 lakh for the VXI AT variant and offers a mileage of 25.19 kmpl. Next up in the lineup are the ZXI AT, ZXI Plus AT, and ZXI Plus AT Dual tone. All of these three premium variants are priced at Rs 6.83 lakh, Rs 7.30 lakh, and lastly Rs 7.42 lakh. All of the variants of the Maruti Wagon R come powered by the same 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes around 88 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. Except for the VXI AT variant, all of the AMT variants offer the same mileage of 24.43 kmpl.
Maruti Suzuki Swift – a single AMT variant in this price bracket
The country’s most popular hatchback of all time, the Maruti Suzuki Swift, takes the second spot on this list. In this Rs 6-8 lakh budget, the Swift VXI AMT variant can be considered as its price is Rs 7.5 lakh. Sharing its powerplant with the above-mentioned Wagon R, the Swift comes powered by the same 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 88 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. The downside of the Swift is that, despite sharing the same powerplant, it offers a mileage of 22.56 kmpl.
Tata Punch – 4 AMT variants of this popular micro-SUV
Third and the only non-Maruti Suzuki car on this list is the Tata Punch micro-SUV. The country’s most popular micro-SUV, Punch, comes with an AMT transmission in four variants that fit this budget of Rs 6-8 lakh. The Punch Adventure AMT, Camo Adventure AMT, Camo Adventure AMT Rhythm variant are priced at Rs 7.5 lakh, Rs 7.6 lakh, and Rs 7.95 lakh. Lastly, there is also the Punch Adventure AMT Rhythm variant, which is priced at Rs 7.85 lakh. All of these variants come powered by the same 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine which makes 86 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. What is also the same is that all of these variants offer 18.8 kmpl of mileage.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire – A single variant of this compact sedan
The Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire is the only compact sedan that has made it to this list. Maruti Suzuki is offering this sedan’s VXI AT AMT variant at a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh. Just like the other Maruti Suzuki cars on this list, this too shares its heart and comes powered by the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine. It also makes the same power of 88 bhp and 113 Nm of torque and also offers a decent mileage of 22.61 kmpl.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno – a single AMT variant of this premium hatchback
Fifth and final spot on this list is taken by Maruti Suzuki’s most premium hatchback offering, the Baleno. At Rs 8 lakh, Maruti Suzuki is offering the Baleno’s Delta AT AMT variant. Once again, it also comes powered by the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine. It makes 88 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. The only special part about this hatchback is that it is the most premium vehicle in the list and comes with a decent amount of features.
Winner and Runner-Up
Out of this list, we would pick the Maruti Suzuki Baleno as it is the most premium of the lot and fits within this affordable price bracket. In the runner-up spot, we place both the Dzire and the Tata Punch – the Dzire for its high practicality, and the Punch for its 4-star safety rating.
