The Udinese fan who racially abused Mike Maignan recently has now been banned for life.

This weekend, disgusting scenes were seen in Serie A. Maignan was called a ‘monkey’ to a section of Udinese fans, who were sitting behind the goal and play was stopped for five minutes. The goalkeeper was consoled for five minutes, as play later restarted and Milan picked up a 3-2 win, but the racism incident made headlines and deservedly so.

Maignan asked for a lifetime ban for the fans, stating that things like those have no place in the sport and people like that should not be allowed to enter football matches.

Udinese have now identified one fan who racially abused the Frenchman and they have announced that he has been banned for life from watching games.

The club state (via Sky): “Udinese Calcio communicates , following the identification of the person primarily responsible for the deplorable racist insults against Maignan, that the person in question will be banned from our stadium for an indefinite period with immediate effect.”

The statement stated that the club are firmly in the battle against racism and thanked the city police for co-operation. This comes after Udine’s mayor had proposed to make Maignan an honourary citizen of the city, while offering him to take the lead in anti-racism awareness activities that will be meted out to children.
