Leaked! Jeep’s luxury electric SUV breaks cover early

The covers have unintentionally come off the new Jeep Wagoneer S before the luxury large electric SUV was due to be revealed, ahead of overseas showroom arrivals later in 2024.

As reported by Stellantis specialist publication Mopar Insiders, the Wagoneer S briefly appeared in a now-deleted social media post, showing the front and back of the upcoming electric SUV.

As previewed earlier this week, the Wagoneer S adopts a modernised seven-slot front grille akin to Jeep’s petrol-powered models, with a full-width LED light bar stretching from headlight to headlight.

The Jeep Wagoneer S pictured is finished in two-tone silver and black paintwork.

The dark roof contrasts against a light background, giving us a clear look at its unique rear spoiler which continues along the lines of the outer roof while the inner section drops down past the C-pillar.

While previous photos of the Wagoneer S in pre-production guise saw the electric SUV forgo any Jeep badges, the leaked images show the brand’s name will feature on the boot lid – though not above the front grille.

Jeep has previously confirmed the Wagoneer S will be all-wheel-drive and produce up to 447kW, enough to achieve a 0-60mph (0-96km/h) sprint time of about 3.5 seconds.

The Jeep Wagoneer S – and the related rugged Recon off-roader, with which it’ll share its STLA Large platform – have both been locked in for Australia.

Jeep, however, has yet to confirm launch timing for either vehicle.

Jeep’s first electric vehicle due in Australian showrooms is the Avenger crossover, slated to launch locally in the fourth quarter of 2024 (October to December inclusive).
