Real Madrid is reportedly considering the sale of their star attacker, Vinicius Junior, in order to make room for the potential signing of Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe.
The French international has been a long-standing target for Los Blancos, and with his contract at PSG set to expire in six months, discussions about his future have intensified.
According to Sport, Real Madrid’s club president, Florentino Perez, believes that Vinicius Junior does not possess the profile to be the club’s key player, but sees Mbappe as someone who can fill that role.
Perez views Mbappe as a true global superstar and considers the recent acquisitions of French compatriots Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni, as well as Jude Bellingham, as perfect complements to the PSG attacker.
Should the deal for Mbappe be completed this month, Vinicius Junior could find himself on the chopping block.
However, the Brazilian player seems unfazed by the potential arrival of the French superstar. In an interview, Vinicius expressed his admiration for Mbappe and his desire to play alongside him, stating that Mbappe is one of the best players, if not the best.
Vinicius has previously mentioned that he would only consider leaving Real Madrid to return to his former club, Flamengo. He expressed his loyalty to Flamengo and his promise to his father that he would go back one day. However, with the possibility of a transfer looming, Vinicius’ future remains uncertain.
Since joining Real Madrid from Flamengo in 2018 for a fee of approximately £40m, Vinicius has become a fan favorite at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The 23-year-old attacker has made 243 appearances for the club, contributing with 69 goals and 68 assists. He also scored the winning goal in the 2021-22 Champions League final against Liverpool and has already netted 10 goals in all competitions this season.
