A person was taken into custody Saturday after exchanging gunfire with Chicago police officers in south suburban Dolton, officials said.
Officers and a SWAT team responded about 5:45 p.m. to the 15200 block of South Meadow Lane as part of “a follow-up investigation” and encountered a person wanted in a separate offense who fired at them, the Chicago Police Department said in a statement.
No one was struck by gunfire, according to police, who said the person who shot at the officers was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered.
A police officer was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition for treatment of abrasions, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The police department said at least one officer would be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days, per department policy, as the Civilian Office of Police Accountability investigates the use of force.
