Evidence suggests fire may be criminal in nature, police say

A woman is dead following an early morning house fire in Quebec City’s Loretteville neighbourhood Sunday.

Emergency services received calls about a fire in the basement of a semi-detached home on Johnny-Parent Boulevard around 2:30 a.m. 

Firefighters pulled an unconscious woman from the flames and she was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Some 50 firefighters were deployed and the intervention ended an hour later. 

The case has been transferred to Quebec City’s police service as initial evidence suggests the fire may have been criminal in origin.

A security perimeter has been set up at the scene.
